The event on the 10 March to the Hinuera Stone Quarry and club BBQ afterwards is hailed as our best attended run in the clubs short history. 14 cars cars lined up in spectacular fashion at the Z Hautapu, including our invited guest Anne Thomson and Wallace McNair in their 1937 Riley Lynx. Anne has a D Type Jaguar, but sadly the WOF inspecter said 'NO' to a WOF due to faulty tail light. So the Riley got a run. The D Type is now fixed and we look forward to seeing Anne and Wallace on our runs in the future.
The Riley Lynx is an interesting machine as it was the Earls Court Motor Show Car in 1937. It has since been upgraded from a 1.5 litre to a 2.5 litre engine and the diff ratio updated from 5.2 - 1 to 4.1 - 1. It has a pre -select gearbox and Wallace has been associated with this 4 seater tourer since he was 20 years old.
Hinuera Stone Quarry was absolutely amazing. A big thanks to Dianne for delivering to us a very informative and interesting, step by step description of how it all works. Thanks again Dianne, I am sure I can talk on behalf of those who were there, we really appreciated your time and presentation and thanks for the tea and bikkies.
The meander through the back country roads on route to Cambridge, for those who indulged, was very enjoyable, these are roads that people would not normally use. Anne in the Riley kept up a fairly brisk pace in the lead, and it was enjoyed by all who followed.
Our first club BBQ was a great success, thanks to Warren and Judy's superb hospitality. A huge 'thank you' from all the members for offering your magnificent home to host the first club BBQ .
